Epistle Sermons Vol II Epiphany Easter and Pentecost edition by Martin Luther John Nicholas Lenker Religion Spirituality eBooks

As a Christian who is always seeking to learn more about people of the faith, having a book by Martin Luther on hand is ideal. Historically, his works have always been written from a unique (yet still devout) perspective imploring people of Christ to do their bidding in a more pure and chaste way.

His Epiphany and Easter sermons are somewhat hard to read from a novice perspective, but once you get the hang of the semi-academic style of writing the ancient texts are so fond of using, you begin to see the messages he believed God wanted us to hear. To turn away from greed, sexual impurity, judgement, and snap judgments against our fellow man are all things the Bible clearly suggests. Martin Luther was a great priest and certainly knew how to convince an audience to follow the ways and the words of God.

I recommend this book for anyone looking to grow in their faith with God, particularly people who love the challenge of reading historical texts. Even the non-religious may find some use for this book, either in gaining more perspective on attitudes of the times or finding a way to learn about how modern Christianity got its roots. It's a reading both for pastors and laymen alike, one that inspires and gives hope to any generation. I believe that the will of Christ has been done through Martin Luther's awe-inspiring words and powerful speeches here in this sermon series.

Epistle Sermons Vol II Epiphany Easter and Pentecost edition by Martin Luther John Nicholas Lenker Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Martin Luthers unapologetic sermons are written for the follower of Jesus that is looking for a deeper understanding of Christ. His sermons are thought out and deliver a strong message, so be prepared to be challenged. His sermons are complex and developed, but at the same time, you cannot seem to put this book down. His thoughts are deep and are challenging, so prepared not to be coddled. I am enjoying reading through his sermons, because of the depth of accuracy of his interpretation of the Bible. All and all, this is a great read and I have would suggest that anyone looking to be challenged, should read this book.
A great collection of Luther's preaching on the seasons of Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. What is good about this collection is that Luther's sermons were intended for the ears of parishioners rather than being in-depth theological treatises, so if you have read things such as the writings in the Book of Concord, for example, then I think this is much more readable, for the most part. If there is a flaw in this collection it is that the translations--being older, and in the public domain--is not as clear as some of the more recent translations of Luther's sermons have been. A good next text after this one might be "The 1529 Holy Week and Easter Sermons of Dr. Martin Luther," available here on .
Having a Christian Ministries minor from Lindsey Wilson College I can greatly appreciate the works of Martin Luther, who was a great Christian man. This book is translated to make it very understandable and shows readers the challenges of being a Christian. Martin Luther deciphers between what Peter and Paul mean when it is said to give your body to God. This is a great book that should be read to build on the Christian faith. Martin Luther clearly explains what God wants from us when it comes to spiritual service. If you are lost my friends you are never alone. You always have God to turn to and He will always have an open ear, and when you're done praying just sit back and listen and feel. God will respond. He will touch you. God Bless!

This book is a great read for any one whom wishes to learn more about the Biblical matters of Pentecost, Epiphany and Easter. Martin Luther has quoted scriptures for everything he has written in this book. If you aren't a Biblical (Spiritual) person or a person of faith it may be a bit hard to understand, as it is written as the Bible (original version of King James) is written. If you are already studying the Bible and or these subjects, then this book would be a great addition to your text reading and study. It is also a great read alone, even without a study or class, however I would forewarn you to grab a pen or pencil and a note-book to take notes, as you will want to remember a lot of what he touches on throughout the book. There are some things in the book that you would read straight out of the Bible. This is the type of book that a person of faith would read with a pondering heart.
I downloaded this book for my husband who has just finished getting his Masters in Divinity and is working on his internship before being ordained as a pastor. This is his review, which is definitely coming from a more scholarly perspective, so keep that in mind.

“In a brief analysis of the translation, I see no reason to be critical of the translation itself, even now, 87 years after the death of the translator. While I see no problems with the translation itself, the introduction speaks little to the method or approach used in the process of translation, but rather makes institutional relgious claims that are far from applicable in the modern age. Similarly, Luther's translation of the bible into the vernacular German was for the sake of making it accessible to the average person. As such, preserving an English translation of scripture that was not aligned with the vernacular of the last turn of the century, let alone the more recent one, leaves this a text for scholars at best. I'm forced to rate this three stars because I have no qualms with the translation of Luther's words, which is the key purpose of the text, but I'm inclined to hope there is or will be a better presentation of the material elsewhere.”
